Qualifying For Ultimate

The Ultimate Tournaments are invite only events. In order to obtain an invitation to the tournaments, you must prove your worthiness by placing highly in local Warhammer & Warhammer 40,000 tournaments in WA. By doing this, you can be certain that you have truly earned your place amongst the contenders and will be in for a tough battle as the best in the state compete for the Ultimate championship!

At many of these tournaments, members of the Ultimate judging panel will be present at the awards ceremony to issue invites to those who have just qualified at the event.

There are 16 places available at each event. Successful qualifiers will need to meet the following criteria:

Ultimate Tournament Invites #1 - #14 (in order)
- Previous year overall winner.
- 1st place overall winners at WA qualifying tournament events*, in order of event size (largest to smallest number of competitors).
- 2nd place overall winners at WA qualifying tournament events*, in order as above.
- 3rd place place overall winners at WA qualifying tournament events*, in order as above.
- 4th, 5th, etc place overall winners at WA qualifying tournament events*, in order as above until spots up to #14 are filled.

If a player qualifies for an invite at multiple events, then only the highest qualification will count for an invitation to the WestGamer Ultimate Tournament. The other placings will be skipped over to the next player in line to qualify for an invite. Likewise, if a player cannot attend the Ultimate Tournament for whatever reason, their invite will be skipped over to the next in line as well.

If two events have the same number of competitors, then the qualifying order will progress chronologically (the earlier event during the year first).

*WA Qualifying Tournament Events.
In order for an event to meet the standards of qualification for the Ultimate Tournaments, it must meet the following minimum standards:
- The event must open to anyone from the gaming public (IE; not exclusive to a set club or group).
- The event must meet the minimum standard of 12 players.
- It must be a Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 tournament in order to qualify players for Ultimate Warhammer & Ultimate Warhammer 40,000 respectively.
- All game sizes must be a minimum of 1500 points and at least 4 rounds must be played.
- Current editions of the game rules (at the time of the event) must be used. In the case of new release game rules and army books, a 1 month grace period is often customary however, and is quite acceptable.
- Due to the extreme nature of Warhammer 40,000 games using the "Apocalypse" expansion, Apocalypse scenario tournaments are not normally considered as qualifying events.
- Invites will only be issued for individual high placings. Team and "doubles" placings will not count for invites.
- It must be a WA event.

The Ultimate Tournament Judges reserve the right to exclude any event from qualification if we believe that it does not meet suitable requirements for the tournaments.

The "Good Sportsman" clause.
Any invitation to the Ultimate Tournaments may be withdrawn if at the event a player qualifies for that invite, they also score in the bottom 25% for sportsmanship. The Judging panel will examine each case on its own merits to determine whether to exclude invitation or not, speaking to the player involved and where possible that event's organisers and other competitors. If a player is deemed to be unsuitable for an invite under this clause, then the judges decision will be final and no further discussion will be entered into on the matter. Non-qualification in this manner will not be made public, and will not be commented upon by the Judges to any 3rd party.
Of course we will only exclude someone if evidence of poor sportsmanship is clear, and if we believe that it will put the enjoyment of other players at risk. Players that are excluded from an invite in this manner are certainly welcome to attempt to qualify again at other events.

Ultimate Tournament Invites #15 & #16 - "WildCard" Entries
- WildCard entries to be issued to two hobbyists selected by the judging panel, who we believe to be worthy of representation at the Ultimate Tournament due to accomplishments over the past year. This could be due to just barely missing out on a placing at an event, accomplishments at an event outside of WA, personalities of renown or notoriety, or contributions to the hobby community in general. Nominations will be accepted from the public during the year for WildCards, but the Judges will make the final decision as to the place getters. Suffice to say that reasons for each WildCard invitation will be made available to the public.

Obviously, any member of the current year's judging panel will be ineligible for entry.

Interstate & International Competitors.
There are 2 ways that interstate & international players may gain entry to the Ultimate Tournaments.
- By travelling to Western Australia during the year and qualifying at a WA Tournament event (see above), or;
- By being nominated & receiving one of the "WildCard" invitations.

Player Seeding at the Events
Player seeding at each Ultimate Tournament is a vital factor and will determine the contender match-ups for rounds #1 - #4 of the events. (Opponents in rounds #5 and #6 are determined by current tournament standings at that time.)
By competing regularly at several events during the year, contenders will have the opportunity to improve upon their seeding rank, giving them a potential advantage when it comes to the Ultimate Tournament itself. Your seeding rank will be updated on the website after each event, and is calculated as follows:

- Players will earn seeding points for EVERY WA open tournament event they attend during the year (not just Ultimate Qualifiers) of the relevant game system.
- Points earned will be equal to the total number of players at each event +1, and then subtracting the player's overall placing.
- For example, you come in 19th overall at a 28 player Warhammer tournament. Your total seeding points from this event would be 10. (28+1-19 = 10) This would then be added to your current year total and ranked against all other WA players to determine your current Warhammer seeding rank for the Ultimate Tournament season.

The top 4 seeded players (1- 4) will be pitted against the bottom seeds (13 - 16) in the first 4 rounds of the Ultimate Tournaments, while the second 4 (5 - 8) will face the remainder (9 - 12). This could potentially mean a bigger chance of making it to the top of the pile for the higher seeded players, but it could also give the lower seeds an early chance to pull down their toughest competition! Regardless, it certainly adds more reasons to continue competing at as many more tournaments throughout the year as you can even after you qualify.

So in summary - get your army ready, get out there and play in some events! Only the best will qualify for the Ultimate Tournaments, but you will have several opportunities throughout the year to prove that you are worthy of an invite. Play hard and we'll see you there!
