New Ultimate 40K '08 contenders added!
With the winners of Mayhem announced we have 2 new qualifiers for the 2008 Ultimate 40K tournament to add to the lineup, in the forms of Sean Biss & Brendan Dee! Check out the contenders pages for the latest additions to the 2008 player lists. With 11 contenders now up, the countdown is on for those final spots - and only the best will make it in. Armadale Wargames have announced plans to run another major 2 day 40K event later in the year, which at this stage is looking like it may be the last 2008 qualifier, so keep your eyes peeled on the news for more info on that.

Ultimate 2008 Wildcards reminder!
In the meantime though, now is the chance for you to nominate someone for an Ultimate Tournament wildcard entry! Nominations are now open from the general public, which the judges will be using later in the year to determine who gets the final 2 coveted invitations to each of the big events. If you do intend to nominate someone, be sure to be clear & concise about the reasons why you believe they deserve to go, and provide as many examples as you can.

You can either nominate by posting in the Ultimate '08 Wildcard thread
here, or if you wish to send in a nomination privately, you can also do so by E-mailing us at: ultimate@westgamer.com

Ultimate Tournament - new contenders revealed!
A handful of new invitations to Ultimate Warhammer 40,000 '08 were given out recently at the Outpost 6030 Skulls 40K and Dropzone Western Carnage tournaments. Details of these new contenders have now been added to the contenders pages - so check 'em out! The places certainly are filling up...

Ultimate 2008 seeding ranks updated
As many of you may be aware, in addition to qualifying for the Ultimates by placing highly at local qualifying tournaments this year, contenders will also be seeded in the event lineup according to their overall performance in the WA tournament circuit throughout 2008. Everyone who has participated in a Warhammer or 40K tournament this year is added to the seeding rankings as well, purely so that everyone can see how they rank up against the competition during the entire year and have a bit of fun!

Now that the full results for Skulls 40K and Western Carnage are in, the 2008 Ultimate seeding ranks have been updated - so check out the
rankings thread to see where you stand. There are still LOTS of events to come yet this year, so still plenty of chances to get out there and pull yourself up over your rivals!

Be'lakor Ultimate Auction
To aid in covering the cost of running the Ultimate Tournaments (and trying to keep the ticket price as low as possible for the competitors), we like to run a few fundraising auctions during the year. We had some fastastic pieces go under the hammer in 2007, but first up for 2008 is this fantastic piece of work by our mysteriously anonymous local painting whizz (if you happen to know who - please keep it to yourself!): an expertly painted model of the Daemon Prince Be'lakor!

Image

Equally suited to use as the special character himself or simply a Daemon Prince for either Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 armies, this model will no doubt come in extremely handy to people working on Daemon forces with the release of the new army book and codex for the Daemons in both games. If you like the look of this model or simply want to help the fundraising effort for the Ultimates, please visit the online auction for this spectacular piece here!

Ultimate 2008 qualifying event schedule
The Ultimate 2008 qualifying event schedule has also just seen an update, so check the
event schedule page for all the latest on which events to attend to have a crack at breaking in to the Ultimates! There are still a number of events coming up further into the year where you can have your shot.

Also - please note that the date for Ultimate Warhammer 2008 has been shifted up one week to the 22nd & 23rd of November. The dates for both events are now locked in at our fantastic new venue in the CBD, but more info on that later.

Next up for aspiring contenders are the Armadale Wargames
Mayhem 40K tournament and the much anticipated Dropzone Rott Quest Warhammer event! Both of these tournaments are your next qualifiers for Ultimate 40K and Ultimate Warhammer respectively, so make sure you get those armies ready and grab some tickets! See you there!

Games Workshop 2008 Event News
Many of you have no doubt been wondering about the schedule and/or timing of the usual Games Workshop events during the year, such as Conflict Perth and the WA Grand Tournament. There has in fact been a fair bit going on behind the scenes to do with this, and it can now be revealed that as of this year - there will be some major changes in the way GW events are run.

The first of these changes is that Conflict events and GW Grand Tournaments will not be appearing anywhere in Australia in their previous format during 2008. So - no WA GT or Conflict Perth this year, or likely beyond that for the forseeable future. Instead, details will be released shortly (the rumour is for the May White Dwarf Magazine) of a new type of event model called Games Workshop Premier Events.

Despite the fact that there will be no OZ GTs run, there are some games clubs or independant event organisers in other states around Australia running their own style of "GT" brand events - often with the support of GW stores and staff. You may also see a few "State Tournaments" around the place later in the year. The WA Games Workshop staff are currently putting together a big new event (or two!) to kick off in 2008, and should be able to release some details soon.

So, some interesting changes ahead. More details will be released on WestGamer as soon as they come to light, but until then - look out for the scores of other hobby events on the horizon for the next few months!

Skulls 40K Tournament incoming!
It's crept up, but the craziness is about to begin! In around 2 weeks we're about to enter an unprecedented run of WA tournament events - and it's going to be busy indeed! Outpost 6030's Skulls 40K tournament gets the ball rolling in a fortnight's time on Sat the 12th & Sun the 13th of April, and this event will also be the second 2008 qualifier for the WestGamer Ultimate Warhammer 40,000 tournament. You have to be in it to win it! Tickets are still available from GW stores & the club, so grab one before the weekend and come along to play!

2008 Event Schedule Revealed!
Regular visitors to these pages will probably notice lots of updates throughout the site today, but one of the most important is the new 2008 event schedule. This now includes a list of all of the current Ultimate Tournament qualifying events, as well as links to the relevant information and dates. You will also find the schedule for the Ultimates themselves, which will be updated and added to throughout the year.

New Ultimates Judge!
In a slight changing of the guard this year, we farewell
Mike Basc from the Ultimate Judging panel as he heads off to manage career and family related commitments this year. Mike has been a fantastic contributor to moulding and running the Ultimate Tournaments in 2007, and while he will be missed - I'm positive that he'll be back on the panel at some point in the future. The bad news for everyone else however - is that Mike can now actually qualify to play at the 2008 Ultimates, so watch out - you could have an exceptionally tough new competitor to deal with!

To take the open spot on the panel, we are extremely happy to welcome Drew "Reaper" Lovell to the 2008 Ultimates team! Drew is a very familiar face on the WA wargaming scene, having won his fair share of trophies at events and has worked in the past as an event organiser on many occasions. Also an ex-president of the Outpost 6030 games club, Drew is very active on the scene now playing Bloodbowl and is the creative force behind the BRAWL league and the Sandgroper Cup tournament! With his Bloodbowl commitments still at full pace, we're very fortunate to have Drew working on the Ultimates as well and I'm sure that he'll be a vital part of the Judging team this year.

2008 Qualifying & Seeding Updates.
In line with some of the improvements being made to the Ultimates this year, there have been some slight changes to the qualification process for the events.

Whilst players will still earn invitations in the same manner (that being the top ranked individuals overall from qualifying events throughout the year plus the Wildcard invites), everyone will now obtain a seeding rank as well, which will represent their skill and consistency during the year at various events. This seeding rank will be applied to players in the opening rounds of the events do determine player match-ups, meaning that the highly seeded players will gain an advantage of sorts during the draw. This makes it very important that players continue to compete at local events even after they qualify to ensure that they go into the competition with a high seeding rank!

To find out more, check out the updated
qualifying details page and the new 2008 Ultimate Seeding List thread.

2
008 Wildcard Nominations Open.
Now that the 2008 tournament season has begun proper, the 2008 Ultimate Wildcard nominations are now open!

The Wildcards are 2 special invitations (for each event) to the Ultimate Tournaments that are voted on by the Judges from a pool of nominations made by the hobby community. Ideally we are looking for those certain individuals that have the "right stuff" to add to the enjoyment, the quality & the prestige of the event for all players.

To nominate someone, simply reply to the
nominations thread or send an e-mail to ultimate@westgamer.com
We had some really great Wildcard entrants last year and we'd love to give the rest of the competitors some tough competition again this year. Please take the time to help us and the players by nominating someone who you think deserves to be there!

2007 Final Wildcard Nominations List
As previously promised, we now have a complete list available of every Wildcard nominee from 2007, as well as who nominated them and why. Receiving an Ultimate Wildcard nomination is a great honour, so a big congratulations to everyone on the list. You can access it
here.

Coming Up Next...
The year has only just begun, but the next two qualifying events for Warhammer 40,000 are coming up fast! Make sure you pick up your tickets for
Skulls 40K and Western Carnage as soon as you can in order to compete for those top qualifying spots and improve your seeding rank. Warhammer players can also look forward to the 2008 Gauntlet Warhammer tournament, which will no doubt have info available soon. Get painting!

First Event Qualifiers for 2008!
The first qualifying rounds for the 2008 Ultimate Tournaments were in fact at the Gamers Guild Grand Prix Des Arms tournaments which just wrapped up this weekend. Congratulations to Dave Horne, Chris Spielvogel and James Sanderson-Miller who are the first players to secure invites to Ultimate Warhammer 40,000, and to Rowan Knight, John Dick and Adam Simpson who have received invites to Ultimate Warhammer. The site has just been updated with details of the new invitees, so check out the contenders pages where you can find pics & a bit of info about the talented individuals who have been invited down to represent their respective game systems at the Ultimate events in November.

2007 Event Photos & Expanded Contender Profiles
We have recently uploaded around 140 photos of all of the action from the 2007 Ultimate Tournaments to the WestGamer Photo Albums, so check them out and re-live some of the highlights from the events last November. There are some truly memorable moments in there and great shots of the action at different stages of the events, as well as complete shots of the award ceremonies.

In addition, if you visit the 2007 contenders pages you will find that every player profile has been updated with more photos and additional bio info about each of the contenders. Simply click on a photo to find out all about a player as well as a scoring breakdown of how they performed at the event.
