I have stolen the last spot at the tourney over here in a fortnights time.

I look forward to some games when I get back!

I played my first game of this last night against one of my flatmates. We each had a ralgard fleet and it was great fun!

On first glance I was a bit worried it might not be as tactical as gothic, but with the screening, wind, and terrain it turned out really well. Movement seems critical, infact from turn two I was sat there saying "Ive $£%"$£ this up! Turn four is going to ruin me".

Then when turn four did arrive and my cruisers were funneled into straights of doom (surrounded by Mat's battleship and cruisers) his dice failed, I rolled like a daemon with some desperate bording (ships hulls were wrecked, but the crews were mostly intact) and we came out about even.

Overall loved it, and while some jammy dice on my part managed to same my sorry hide Im guessing this should be less of an issue with larger games as dice seem to average out the more you roll (or so I find). Cant wait for my next game

Played my first game last night with the Bone Griffons against Boothy's Ralgard. Got a minor loss. A very enjoyable game, and I have a lot to learn about positioning. Undead Whales Rock :D 6 of them slammed into, and destroyed all the crew on his Battleship  Also like the trebuchet's, but may try the gun decks next time.

Ok, so I've succumbed to yet another new game system (thanks in large part to being given a bunch of Tactics gift vouchers for X-mas and Birthday), and so I've picked up the rules and a good sized Ralgard fleet. Which looks ace!

Anyone have any experience with Ralgard? How do they tend to play?

Also who else out there plays, what do you have, and are you up for a game? ;)

I've played against them a couple of times; they seem to play similar to humans, although that's probably because they use the wind
Their balloons are terrifying if they get in the middle of a fleet (not being able to shot at them and 1 of them has all round broadsides). I'd talk to Karl (Boothy Baby) he's the man with the fleet.

I'm always up for a game with my Shroud Mages, I can probably make around 800+ points.

Fantastic, more uncharted seas!

Ralgard - they do seem similar ish to the humans in that they both use the wind and specialise in lots of guns (yaaarrr!) as opposed to bording, or being tough, or being really quick. The Ralgard have some wonderfully heavy guns at range bands one and two, but tend to have fairly naff firepower at long range. One thing I have found key with them is not to panick about getting inot range band one, our guns are best there, but often not by much. At range band two we are still better than most.

As far as ships go, ive been underwhelmed by the dralnak (small balloon), they cost almost twice as much as a frigait and dont bring that much more. If they can get into position for some double broadside fun they can be good but tend to get chewed up by defencive fire before they have the chance.

by contrast Im loving the jarak (big balloon). Its tough and its very easy to get multiple arcs firing. Just be carfull to screen the tugs. Ive started screening the tugs behined my battleship and firing the balloons over them (balloons can see and be seen over other ships, but the tugs cant).

Ive also been loving the raknarl, fantastically flexible ship but if often run out of points for them. i normally feild a pair in larger games to form a flexible centre to my fleet that can take some punishment.

An interesting thing Ive notice with the ralgard is that its possible to cram a LOT of firepower into any given
points value because the jaraks are class 2 specials but not cruisers. This means
we can max out the cruiser allowance and then cram yet more guns in with the jaraks.
Other races have to balance their expenditure on guns more evenly across the ship
classes or take more unusual special choices (subs, dragons, destroyers, whatever)
which means most enemies will bring a lower total firepower to the board.

I also have a 1000 point bone griffon fleet if you fancy a game? TGA central and
North seem to be the best places at the moment.

Awesome.

I'd definitely fancy a game - but to be honest, I've just kicked off with Dystopian Wars too, so I kinda wanna wrap my head around that one first before I go too nuts with Uncharted. Will definitely hit you up for a battle at some point in the coming months though - we can work out a time & place then.

Cheers!

Really keen to start this - damn, that means starting Uncharted Seas and Dystopian Wars at the same time. My bank account and logical reasoning are going to suffer...

I like the Iron Dwarves for 2 reasons:
1 - they have simple looking brutal ships, angled armour, favour gunnery, counter magic play style, very resistant.
2- they have simple looking ships - easier to paint for me. I'm someone who relies on drybrushing and shading via Army Painter to make my models look semi decent!

I see some players at TGA Vic Park play a few games last couple of weeks. Hoping the interest is going to continue as it may be a few weeks to get the ID from Maelstrom Games - i refuse to pay the high costs from Tactics.

Brilliant, its always good to see more people getting interested.

Theres a few people at TGA who play (and there should be more once the mega order turns up) but you generally have to arange a game in advance (except against me, I always have my fleets with me).

Just started up Dystopian wars as well, am now in the process of trying to sort terrain out.
