So a friend of mine wants to learn how to play, as she wants a hobby while she studies. I figure I'll build her a common deck to teach her the game.

I think the best way to approach it is probably red. I can build a decent deck while not having to fork out for any rares.

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Burst Lightning
4 Searing Blaze
2 Fireball

4 Goblin Bushwhacker (1/1 that's also awesome late game)
4 Jackal Familair (2/2 but can't block alone- would synergize better with haste guys)

4 Goblin Shortcutter (2 drop that removes a blocker)
4 Plated Geopede (2 for a 3/3 is win)

4 Incurable Ogre (3 for a 5/1? win.)

3 Dragon Whelp (Needs something fun if it goes to late game)

19 Mountains
4 Tectonic Edge (death to manlands)

So yeah. Looking for a) other card suggestions and b) to buy it from someone.

Other good card choices include:

Goblin Artillery - 3 drop that blasts stuff (I'm basically building Sligh anyway)
Firey Hellhound - 3 for a 2/2 with Firebreathing
Goblin Roughrider - 3 for a 3/2
Raging Goblin - instead of the 2/2's that can't attack or block alone
Shatterskull giant - 4 mana for 4 power
Guyser Glide - 5 for a 4/4 that landfalls for flying

And finally, panic attack. It basically removes all blockers.

I'm slightly surprised not to see Tettering Peaks. It's another way to get extra damage through against an open board. Also think Jackal Familiar is better off being Skitter of Lizards but that's just me.

*Looks at what the cards do*

Hm, 4 teetering peaks it is. I didn't know they existed. lol.

And I totally agree on the Lizards.

Woots.

Re-worked.

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Burst Lightning
4 Searing Blaze

4 Llanowar Elves
4 Naya Hushblade (RG for 2/2, that gets +1/+1 if I have another gold card)
4 Gnarlid Pack
4 Vithian Renegades
4 Leatherback Baloth
4 Bloodbraid Elf

4 Rootbound Crag
4 Raging Ravine
9 Forest
7 Mountains

I dropped all the x-spells and Spellbreaker Baloths. Not as many fatties as I'd like, but the mana curve is a lot lighter.
