I mentioned on the Rising Fury thread that I was planning an Operation Market Garden campaign ...
Quote:
Every year I run a FoW campaign, and we are up to Market Garden, but numbers have been dwindling. Chris suggested I open it up to Bolt Action players as well to increase the player base, which sounds like a great idea.

No solid details at this point. Just an idea if a plan. Wanna get the slow grow in progress before I start thinking about the next thing!
... rather than derail the slow grow league I thought it best to start a new thread.

My broad plan is this campaign would be open to everyone on Westgamer. People not on Westgamer... well... get on board ;) but more seriously I'd like at least 1 person in each game to be posting details to keep the momentum going.

The campaign would be using the Flames of War Firestorm system, as i have been using it for the last couple of years and it seems to work well enough. If your not familiar with the system this means game will more than likely not be balanced.

A big component of the system is strategic unit movement and that means paratroops deep behind enemy lines will be out numbered and out of supply. In game terms you will be at a disadvantage points wise and rules wise... but that's how para's like it.

Games in both Flames of War and Bolt Action will be permissible to resolve battles.

I still need to do some work translating FoW to Bolt Action, but after some initial dabblings it seems feasible.

Personally I'm a fan of theatre specific stuff. Russians and KV-1's deploying behind enemy lines alongside Polish paratroopers just looses the feel for me, but I understand everyone's collection may not suit this particular operation. That said I'm not intending for this to happen around September, so if the theatre appeals you've got plenty of time to research your force and get collecting! (which is why I mentioned it on the Rising Furt thread)

So, post thoughts, idea, preferences here and I will take them into consideration :D

Great idea, count me in (though I've never played FoW so don't have a clue about Firestorm).
I've got late-war Germans and US paras in 28mm so can go either way.
Cheers

Dammit! Was hoping to avoid paratroopers but you just piqued my interest again. So now I've to put together my Western Desert, Commando, D-Day AND Arnheim forces. Will it ever end...

I'm keen on the Garden part of the operation.

XXX Corps and Guards Armoured Division to the rescue in theory.

Russians could come to the rescue in a what if the Antonov A-40 became operational scenario.

For russian players we could do small side games on the eastern front which affects available resources for germany in the main campaign?

Great to see all the interest.

No FoW knowledge required. Basically you'll be picking a battle from the map, adjusting points according to the battle situation, playing a game, and then rolling some dice to determine any additional effects as a result of the outcome.

Russians would need to be on the maps. I guess out of theatre forces could just join the appropriate side, Axis or Allies

I'd be happy to try and mock up an eastern front map if you want? That way it can be total war Europe?

Otherwise yeh we can just move out of theatre onto the map. I'll probably use my FOW yanks to join with 30 corps to try and link with the brits but I'd love to use my BA soviets too.

So, I can provide late war SS.

Tank wars anyone? I really want to see my Panthers on the table...

Tank wars could be fun.
Get some Cromwell's charging about, or copious amounts of Daimler's (a force of nothing but recce? :D)

For an idea of the firestorm system, here's a link for a simplified version.

From memory the market garden map is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.

Yep. The map is available here
http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=1938

Plenty of time for that though, lets get this early war league rolling first :) I have a lot to do before I am ready for Market Garden, but great to see the demand is there!

It's on, but no progress at this stage.

Basically, I have a major Bushido event to organise, and I needed the Rising fury camapign to get more Bolt Action experience to manage that side of things.

Are you interested in BA or FoW?
