Hi all,

After the successful start in December we are now starting the league proper. This game will be 600 points with the following restrictions:
1-2 Leaders, 2+ Battleline, 0 Artillery, 0-1 Behemoths
This should cover the box content of a Start Collecting box, if this is the way you came into the hobby.
The league is to encourage players to paint, so be advised that there will be penalties for unpainted units which will be advised on the night (this could be -1 Bravery for a unit, or a +1 to hit against the unpainted unit etc.)
Looking forward to seeing you all.

Next games will be on the following dates:
28/02/2017
28/03/2017
25/04/2017
28/04/2017 Skullz AoS
I will post updates here for each round, but please also check the Outpost Facebook Group to stay up to date.

Enjoyed the intro session. Many thanks to Peter for his great tutorial of the game. Looking forward to a skullz AoS event. Will be there for the next session for sure.

Is AoS actually decent now? How has it changed? Does it work competitively?

I'm curious because it seems to be getting some traction and I've been toying with the idea of playing 40k/whfb again.

I find it plays rather like Magic the Gathering with miniatures. I found a lot of it depends on what characters you take in relation to what troops, and how many buffs/combos of abilities you can pull off. It is totally different from old warhammer though. It's mechanics are very simple, but there is a degree of depth regarding how you build your force and how the models work together within it.

Monsters are interesting now - their abilities, strength etc are tied to wounds, so as it is injured, it's fighting power and abilities diminish accordingly.

It won't appeal to all, but using the matched play system in the generals handbook, you can have some good games. I've committed, brought out my old chaos warriors and rebased them. That's another thing -you're not so constrained with models now. Beastmen, skaven, daemons, chaos warriors and chaos monsters can all be fielded freely in a chaos grand alliance.

As always, best to watch or try a practice game first...

Yes and no... it's a fun game but I don't think the competitive scene is there yet, or if it ever will be that suited to it. GW aren't terribly worried about making it balanced or suited to high level competition.

As a game you don't have to think about too much, and as something with great modeling and painting opportunity, I really like it.

Totally forgot to add the January date for our league. This is going to be the 31st January. Usual time (19:15) at Outpost.
In addition just a few more details for the first rounds of AoS League.
For army selection, please bear in mind that we will only be using Legion abilities and artifacts from the generals handbook. This means no warscroll battalions, or any other freebies from any battletomes please. This keeps it a bit more balanced, as either some factions don't have these abilities yet, or players might not have taken the plunge into the battletomes yet.

I think the February date has been bumped to 7 March, for those who weren't there on the night.

That's correct, thanks Pete!

also, please remember the roster for the night:
1,000 points 1-4 Leaders, 2+ Battleline, 0-2 Artillery, 0-2 Behemoths
No split point units this time, we go with triumphs if required.

It's time for the penultimate round of AoS league at Outpost on the 28th March starting at 7:15pm.
This month will see full 6x4 boards and 1,500 points armies with the following composition:
1-5 Leaders, 3+ Battleline, 0-3 Artillery, 0-3 Behemoths
Players can also utilise Battletome abilities, the only restriction in place is, that you opponent has to be ok with you using any Battletome abilities. Therefore, please bring along two lists and decide with your opponent which one is to be used.
This restriction is for free Battletome abilities, as well as Warscroll Battalions, so you might have to bring enough minis to allow both armies to be fielded.
