Yeah, pretty much what the title says. ;)

So I've got a treadmill at home, but being a full time dad I'm finding very little time to jump on it and get some exercise. And what little time I do have, well, it's usually spent painting minis.

So basically I need something that will motivate me to get more exercise. So what about hooking up an xbox and playing a random game while I run/power walk? Do you guys think it'd work?

Friends of mine do it on exercise bikes and cross-trainers, but I'm not sure about the treadmill.

I suspect it would work quite well - but only for certain games.

I do something similiar on an exercise bike... normally I watch youtube channels like Ashens and watchmojo which are good time killers.

Not sure if plants vs zombies will work on a running treadmill but walking it should be okay. Warhammer quest is good fun and turn based

Yeah, I could definitely see turn based games working.

I guess you'd just want to avoid anything that involves precise timing or fine motor skills.

X-com

I played about 3/4s of the game on a treadmill.
Racked up 4 Kms during one mission (!)

I agree with drsn0. If you have enough ability to concentrate on the game instead of your breathing / technique you probably just aren't trying hard enough.

People who are talking on their phone while running / walking, reading magazines etc... essentially could be doing a more effective work out if they removed the distraction.

They could also be doing no workout at all without the distraction to "help". While it might not be what the pros do, distracted exercise, while probably not as good as dedicated exercise, is much better than entertained sedation. It could also build a good habit of exercising.

I would have thought an exercise bike would be better for gaming but doesnt work as much of your body as running does.

Good luck!

Very true. Split your time between them instead of doing a half assed job of both by trying to combine them.

When it comes down to it you have 2 options.

1. Excercise to improve your quality of life.

2. Excercise to make you feel like your trying to improve your quality of life.

If you are struggling with motivation use your kids.
Because no matter who you are.
If your a parent, the healthier you are the better life your kids will have.

And if you dont like running sell the damn treadmill and buy a basic weight setup.

Im no expert and im not trying to be this is just really beginner advice.
