New list from the 9/12/2013, Basically the first few turns of ranged attacks I can do hurt n has been good, but then combat happens n im finding Ogres are that great unless they have the numbers, charge and have a betta chance of losing less models. (basically WS3 , 5+ armour at best usually ignored and striking last means they get cleaned up pretty well and are less effective at punching back) obviously flank charges makes them betta.

Any way new list.

LORDS
Slaughtermaster, lvl 4 wizard, Great Weapon,
Talisman of Endurance, Forbidden Rod, Crown of Command 395pts

HEROS
Bruiser, Battle Standard Bearer, Great Weapon, Heavy Armour,

Hey Outcast, cool to see it's happening :D

On the list, you have (IMO) overspent on magic. The Winds of Magic aren't reliable (2D6 per turn) and Ogres don't have a way to make it reliable either. I'd recommend taking the level 4 and maybe the level 1 fire. The level 4 should help defend against magic while the level 1 offers some early offensive power.

I'd also be inclined to have banners rather than musicians on the leadbelchers for when you hit melee. A Muso will only add 1 if the result is a draw although a muso will help with rallying if that's your thing ;)

Outside of that, I really don't know anything about Ogres.

Eeeek! my dark elves will get owned by that list! Freakin leadbelchers.

I agree with brooksey, you don't need 2 supporting mages. As a rule of thumb, 4-6 magic levels is enough.

the reason outcast has taken musicians is so he can reform and still shoot with his leadbelchers, in case he is getting flanked, or some pesky flyer ends up behind him.

If you could find the points, a standard bearer and flaming standard (banner of eternal flame) on the leadbelchers would be pretty handy for anything that regenerates... like chaos trolls. Just sayin.

Pretty sure you can't have banners on the belchers anyway guys.

Keep the lvl 4 and have a fire belly lvl 2 with dispel scroll.
Also give both magic users great weapons. The slaughter master got FAQ to have a gw for 10points.
Also take standard of discipline to give your general of 9.
Also a dragon and gem on the master for lols.

Hmm, yup. That seems pretty scary. Don't know the ogres well enough to interpret anything but those rare choices all seeming like big gribblies.

You might miss the cannons. I think Ironblasters are one of the most versatile and powerful units in the game - resilient, mobile, scary at range with a reliable cannon, and a good supporting combat unit. But I think with big monster type things, you need multiple for target saturation, so don't go dropping them.

I could see exactly how you would use the first list - dominate the shooting phase and charge anything that gets close with the ironguts. This second list is less straightforward - to me. Part of your army will want to move forward, part of it stay back.

You won't use the magic you have listed. I know you want to play magic heavy, but wait and see, after one game of running this, you'll be dropping a caster. It doesn't matter how many casters you have, you'll still cast the same number of spells (assuming you have at least 1 lvl4). Having more casters just gives you more choices for what spell you'll cast.

But tbh, both of these lists have me quivering in my pointed dark elf boots.

Also you have 750 in rare which you cant do.

Stone Horns are all right and thunder tusk is well less than good.

I would try to get in 4 mournfang with dragonhide banner.

Otherwise the list is good.

Also some Iron guts would be good and two iron blasters.

By then you should have the standard ogre list of doom.

Yea one of my mates pointed that out to me last night I though you got 50% for rare, but that's special... wopps will rework it later.

So almost won my first game last night. Vs Dark Elves with (lvl4 wiz on dark peg, 30 executioners, 30 witch elves with a cauldron, 2 units of 5 dark riders, 5 warlocks, 5 shades, a hydra, cold one chariot, 3 bolt throwers) long story short the witchs with the cauldron rolled my irongut in the last turn to steal the game, which was annoying but kinda kewl. I was surprised at how reliant the ogres where, magic didn't have much play for both of us as we where shutting down each others magic pretty much all the time, leadbelchers are amazing, gnoblares are fun n funny, ironblasters mess stuff up nice and the slaughtermaster is kewl. Was surprised at how much of a beat stick the brusier can be.

So ive made a few changes nothing huge mainly item swaps n the sabres...

Looks solid.
Change the butcher for a 2nd fire belly for an extra breath weapon if you really won't drop the faster. Unless you need the butcher to take a different lore on the master.
Regardless should do well.

Much better list.

I will drop 1 unit of 5 iron blasters and put in some mournfang.

Would be interested in how you find the gnoblars as I would have thought some more bulls would work better.

I have had some luck with ogres in the past so could offer some comments.

LORDS
Slaughtermaster, lvl 4 wizard, Great Weapon,
Talisman of Endurance, Forbidden Rod, Crown of Command 395pts
- always try and get a cheap magical weapon on characters so that vs ethereals you arent held up.

HEROS
Bruiser, Battle Standard Bearer, Great Weapon, Heavy Armour,
Talisman of Preservation, Enchanted Shield 195pts
- a great set up but i try to have a magic weapon

Butcher, lvl 2 wizard, Ironfist, Dispell Scroll 163pts
- D scroll is nice but hel heart strikes gear into the enemy and can keep their mages away. imagine them losing the unkillable DP from a miscast!

CORE
10 Ironguts, Musician, Standard Bearer, Standard of Discipline 465pts
- nice

30 Gnoblars, Musician, Standard Bearer 95pts
-what is you plan for these guys? remove enemy steadfast? redirectors?

30 Gnoblars, Musician, Standard Bearer 95pts

SPECIAL
Sabretusk 21pts
- excellent choices
Sabretusk 21pts

Sabretusk 21pts

4 Leadbelchers, Musician/Bellower 182pts
- these are sub par choices in my opinion. Why? well each leadie costs 43 points.
1.lets say all 13 shoot at a block of empire infantry.
13*3.5 = 45 shots. long range is -1 to hit. so hit on 5s. 15 hits. wound on 3s so 10 wound. 589 points to cause 10 wounds to T3 infantry with a 5+ save.

2. vs 1+ armour cav they do 3 wounds.
3. vs T6 no armour save monsters they do 2.5 wounds.

all it takes is a mobile skirmisher unit in front of a high pri target and the leadies wont hit much. i would take mournfang or mannies in special. 8th is about removing units. shaving 10 off may cause a panic test but with bsbs etc its usually ok.

4 Leadbelchers, Musician/Bellower 182pts

5 Leadbelchers, Musician/Bellower 225pts

RARE
Ironblaster 170pts
- these are gold.

Ironblaster 170pts

TOTAL: 2400pts

to sum up you need more supporting combat blocks, i know leadies can do it but it puts you in a bind. do you shoot and not do a lot or just charge and do the impact hits and combat.
