This has come up last time so thought I'd get everyone's opinion on it.

Do Zooming Flyers and Swooping FMCs get the 4+ invul save from a Skyshield Landing Pad in Shielded configuration?

The rules only say this:
"Units on top of a shielded Skyshield Landing Pad have a 4+ Invulnerable Save against enemy shooting attacks."
Which makes me think they do get it, but others have disagreed on fluff and game balance grounds.

Thoughts?

As the rule is written, if you acn put the model on top of the skyshield I don't see why they shouldn't get it.

From a balance point of view, the skyshield is not the most popular fortification for a reason! The player who took it missed out on a Quadgun or Commlink, and it's not as if they are going to be able to maintain flyer mode and stay on the Shield for more than one turn at a time.

Thanks for your input Matt.

Some armies can't use the quad gun... well, one army really ;)

But I agree, you are paying 75points to get a 4+ save for a single turn so I don't see it as broken. It also limits the range of your flyers as it has to go on your half of the table.

Yes, but that army is Nids, so are people really complaining about balance when talking about the only jimmy-no-mates army GW prevented from having any friends?

You should try a Skyshield landing pad with a couple of Flying Hive Tyrants some time, that would get decent use out of it.

Great idea!! :D

If that fails, I'll just park 3 Tervigons on it in The Emperor's Will...
